This is a second-year, elective MBA course that students may take after taking the mandatory, first-year Finance sequence. The course draws approximately 80% of the material from issues related to Portfolio Management and Investments and 20% from issues related to Corporate Finance. The course is applied and practical and ultimately seeks to provide future practitioners with widely used concepts, analytical frameworks, and tools. The topics discussed include long-term trends (return; risk; forecasting); risk revisited (the three-factor model; downside risk); risk and return (risk-adjusted returns; stars and costs); asset allocation (portfolio optimization in Excel; asset classes and financial instruments; portfolio choice and rebalancing); and emerging markets (performance; practitioners' views on investing; risk; cost of capital; project evaluation). When time allows the course also includes some debates and specials guests.
